I originally come from Gloucestershire in the UK and now live and work in Gran Alacant, just south of Alicante. I have been here for over four years now, and love Spain, it’s climate, the relaxed way of life, the beautiful beaches and the really wonderful people here.

I started my working career in 1979 as an electronics engineer, learning about design, manufacture and repair of electronic components, circuits and machines. In 1986 I had the opportunity to work for IBM. At the time, IBM was the biggest and most successful computer company in the world. I started out as a repair technician, based in the IBM Bristol ServicePoint (or workshop) and worked on personal computers, typewriters, screens and printers. This was around the time when IBM had just launched the world’s very first personal computer. After a year of IBM indoctrination, errrr training, they decided the time was right to release me from the ServicePoint and I became a field-based IBM Customer Engineer. I started off at the bottom, fixing retail and banking products - tills, bar code readers, cash points, back-office systems etc. I spent 18 years as a field-based engineer, covering the South West and South Wales, over time working on the entire range of IBM products, right up to mainframe computers. I worked in many national and multi-national companies and computer data centres. I was a Regional Specialist on IBM’s high-end Power-based server range, providing training and support to my IBM colleagues.

IBM’s philosophy and goals were (and still are) incredibly simple. Employ the best people, continuously train and develop those people to provide the very best customer service and technical excellence available. I am really proud of my career in IBM, and I had the opportunity to work with some of the most creative and talented people in the computer industry. I still have many friends and colleagues in IBM.

So why did I leave IBM? Well, as with everything in life, things change over the years. The job was changing, becoming less technical-based and more a “mister fix-it” role. The hours I was working were becoming a killer, and I wanted to retain and enhance my technical and customer skills. In short, it was the right time in my life to leave the money and glamour behind, and focus on doing what makes me happy, and what I really want to do.

So here I am in Gran Alacant. My aim is to provide all my customer service and technical skills to my clients here on the Costa Blanca. I always keep up-to-date on all the latest technical developments in the computer industry because, quite simply, this is what I do to earn a living, and I love it. I believe in fairness, honesty and integrity in everything I do. I don’t believe in charging a customer 25€ for 10 minutes work because it’s simply wrong. I make a point of talking to customers on their technical level, whether they are a total computer boffin or someone who isn’t too sure where the on/off switch is. I know I am doing my job right because the vast majority of  new customers are recommendations from existing customers.

If you have managed to make it this far without nodding-off, congratulations and thanks for visiting my web site. Enjoy exploring and I hope you find some useful information.
